Still dreaming of you, ‘Selena: The Series’ is coming to Netflix

The legacy of the late Tejuana singer, Selena Quintanilla-Perez, will live on through a biographical drama series with the help of Netflix and the Quintanilla family.

It has been 25 years since the death of the “Queen of Tejano” music and to this day her legacy lives on. Selena was more than a singer, she was an entertainer, fashion icon and an innovator like no other. Her short lived career garnered multiple hit songs like “I Could Fall in Love”, “Como la Flor”, “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom” and of course the fan favorite “Dreaming of You” along with many other chart toppers.

Since her death, her family and fans have continued to honor her– If you remember, Jennifer Lopez took on the movie lead of ‘Selena’ back in 1997 which landed Quintanilla a number 1 album posthumously. In 2017, she was honored with the Hollywood Walk of Fame star and in 2020 Mac Cosmetics launched a limited-edition make-up collection called ‘Selena La Reina’ to commemorate the 25th anniversary of her passing.

Now, Netflix has joined the celebration announcing the release of a ‘Selena’ series by the end of the year. The series will host six episodes in a part one edition that is supported and co-executive produced by the Quintanilla family.

‘Selena: The Series’ has its’ lead character in ‘Walking Dead’ and ‘Twilight’ star, Christian Serratos, alongside of her will be Ricardo Chavira as Selenas’ father Abraham Quintanilla Jr., Jesse Posey as Chris Perez her husband, and Gabriel Chavarria as her older brother, A.B. Quintanilla III, along with many other cast members. The show released the official cast members via Instagram (@selenanetflix) penning the influence Selena had on them and how her legacy lives on.

As we wait for the release, reminisce on her music through Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube Music. The film ‘Selena’ with Jennifer Lopez is available on Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Google Play, iTunes and Vudu. As the year winds down, keep a look out for this highly anticipated show airing on the subscription giant, Netflix, within the coming months.
