The film is a new take on the critically acclaimed play by Wilson and has Denzel Washington set as the producer. Washington and Davis are no strangers to Wilson&#8217;s work considering they acted alongside each other in 2016 for their film <em>Fences<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"ord7gP151vk\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Ma Rainey&#039;s Black Bottom | Official Trailer | Netflix\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ord7gP151vk?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Being that Boseman died this past August, there is significant Oscar buzz around Boseman&#8217;s performance in this film with many critics seeing this being a potential Best Supporting Actor nomination. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an interview with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/09\/30\/movies\/chadwick-boseman-ma-raineys-black-bottom.html\">New York Times<\/a>, Davis reflected on Boseman&#8217;s performance and praising him as an artist and human being. &#8220;An actor of Chadwick\u2019s status usually comes on and it\u2019s their ego who comes on before them: This is what they want, this is what they\u2019re not going to do. That was absolutely, 150 percent off the table with Chadwick.
